Estradiol Patch Shortage
Dear Patients,
We want to let you know that we are aware of the current nationwide shortage affecting some estradiol patches. We understand how frustrating this can be, and we are working with our patients to find the best available alternatives during this time.
If your pharmacy is unable to fill your prescription, the following options may help:
- Call other local pharmacies. Availability varies by pharmacy and location, so another pharmacy may have your prescribed patch in stock.
- Check with national pharmacies. Large mail-order and online pharmacies, such as Amazon Pharmacy, can often ship it directly to your home.
- Ask your pharmacist about once-weekly patches. If your prescribed twice-weekly patch is unavailable, a once-weekly patch is an appropriate alternative.
- Check with Paragon Pharmacy. Paragon is a specialty mail-order pharmacy located in Littleton, Colorado. If your medication is available, they can ship it directly to your home. You can contact them at 720-627-6123.
- Check with Cost Plus Drugs (Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company). This online pharmacy may have estradiol patches available and can ship them directly to your home. Please note that you will need to create an account with Cost Plus Drugs before we can send your prescription there. Visit https://www.costplusdrugs.com/ for more information.
- Ask which patch strengths are available. In some cases, a different patch strength can be used to achieve your prescribed dose. Please do not cut or alter your patches unless our office has specifically instructed you to do so.
- Discuss alternative estrogen formulations with our office. If you are unable to obtain an estradiol patch, your provider may recommend switching to another form of estrogen, such as a transdermal gel or oral estradiol, depending on your medical history and treatment goals.
If you locate your medication at a different pharmacy, please let our office know where you would like your prescription sent. If you are unable to find your prescribed patch after trying the options above, please contact our office so we can discuss appropriate alternative treatment options with your provider.
We recognize this shortage is both frustrating and inconvenient. Please know that this is a manufacturer supply issue affecting pharmacies nationwide and is unfortunately outside of our office’s control. We appreciate your patience and understanding as manufacturers work to restore normal availability.
